FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What Additional Supports Do Mental Health Continuum Schools Receive?

NYC Public Schools is committed to increasing funding and supports to better meet the social-emotional and mental health needs of our students. All students, regardless of whether they attend a Mental Health Continuum school, have access to high quality, tiered mental health and wellness supports in their school.

The Mental Health Continuum provides additional funding and supports to our highest needs schools in the South Bronx and Central Brooklyn. As part of this initiative, schools receive additional funding to establish or further build out their mental health spaces, to purchase new mental health and wellness resources, to develop the capacity of their staff to leverage a whole school collaborative problem-solving approach, and to fund per session activities tied to improving the school’s mental health and wellness offerings. Additionally, staff, students, and families have access to enhanced crisis supports through NYC Well, including access to Children’s Mobile Crisis Teams, as well as expedited referrals to community-based care at Health + Hospital child and adolescent behavioral health clinics.

For general information about the mental health continuum, you can reach out to ocsw@schools.nyc.gov and schoolmentalhealth@schools.nyc.gov
